ESE-2017 Exam Pattern

UPSC has revised exam structure and syllabus for all four steams:
1. CIVIL ENGINEERING
2. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
3. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
4. ELECTRONICS and TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING

Now year 2017 onwards Engineering Service Examination will be conducting into two different phase as: Preliminary and Mains Examination, whereas both exams likely to be conducted in month of February and June respectively. The detailed revised structure of ESE-2017 is given below

STAGE-1: PRELIMINARY EXAM

This paper estimated to be conducted in month of February. The question paper will consists of objective type questions only.

STAGE-1/PRELIMINARY EXAM (OBJECTIVE TYPE PAPER)
Paper-1 General Studies and Engineering Aptitude Paper 2 Hrs
200 Marks
Paper-2 Engineering Discipline-specific Paper 3 Hrs
300 Marks
Sub Total Marks 500 Marks

STAGE-2: MAINS EXAM

Once candidate qualify preliminary Examination then, candidate will be eligible to appear for mains examination. The mains paper estimated to be conducted in the last week of June. The question paper will consists of subjective/conventional type questions only.

STAGE-2/MAINS EXAM (SUBJECTIVE/CONVENTIONAL TYPE PAPER)
Paper-1 Engineering Discipline-specific Paper-I 2 Hrs
300 Marks
Paper-2 Engineering Discipline-specific Paper-II 3 Hrs
300 Marks
Sub Total Marks 600 Marks

STAGE-3: PERSONALITY TEST

After qualify both Preliminary and Mains exams the candidate is eligible to appear in last phase of ESE examination i.e Personality test which is likely to be conducted in the month of November or December.

STAGE-3/ PERSONALITY TEST (SUBJECTIVE/CONVENTIONAL TYPE PAPER)
Personality Test 200 Marks
Grand Total Marks 500+600+200 = 1300 Marks

Those candidates qualify Stage-1 + Stage-2 + Stage-3 Exam to be included into final merit list of Engineering Service Examination provided by UPSC.
